Winners of the IRC Seattle office's second annual refugee soccer tournament

From Erin Crooks, AmeriCorps*VISTA and PR/development coordinator in the IRC's Seattle resettlement office, which celebrated World Refugee Day in June with a refugee soccer tournament and a visit by soccer pros from the Seattle Sounders:

Each person in this picture has a different story and a different journey that has brought him here to Seattle. Somali, Bosnian, Meskhetian Turk, Sudanese, and American - many of them don’t speak the same language, but they all know how to play soccer. Soccer truly is a worldwide sport and the unifying force that brought IRC staff, volunteers, community members and refugees together to celebrate World Refugee Day 2005.
