From James Yekeh, IRC's education program manager for Montserrado County in Liberia, where an IRC program is reaching out to 100 young women to help them complete high school:

Senneh Yekeh (left, no relation) has just begun her final semester at Maimu high school, which is a two-room, mud-walled building in the Maimu displaced persons camp in Bong County, Liberia. This is the second straight semester Senneh and her friend Nora Kollie (right) have received an International Rescue Committee scholarship.

During the war, many girls were subject to all sorts of abuse. Even now that the war is over, many have lost their families and must fend for themselves. We try to provide the support that will allow at least this small group of young women the opportunity to continue their educations and prepare for a better future.
