Drawing by a formerly abducted child in Uganda who was assisted by the IRC Brutal conflicts in Congo, Uganda and Sudan are the world's three biggest "forgotten emergencies," each dwarfing the toll of the Asian tsunami but attracting scant media interest, according to a new Reuters AlertNet poll of experts. In northern Uganda, 95% of the population in the conflict zone have been uprooted and more than 25,000 children have been abducted to serve as soldiers and sex slaves. IRC-UK's East Africa program officer George Graham, who took part in the poll, said more coverage of the war could highlight it as a test case for an international criminal court: "Greater media engagement could have a really positive effect.
