Bridging the Gap Between Two Worlds
Photo: Patrick Sirois/The IRC

By the IRC's Patrick Sirois, who joined IRC president George Rupp and IRC board members and supporters on a field visit to refugee camps in Thailand earlier this year. You can see a slideshow of Patrick's photos from the trip on Flickr.

Annabelle Mubi (right), an officer working in IRC's psychosocial programs in Thailand, poses with her 80-year-old grandmother, who wears the traditional rings of the Kayan (Longneck) tribe. Mubi, who was only seven when her family fled Burma, decided soon afterward that she wanted to be a 'modern woman.' While unencumbered by the rings that her ancestors wore and many of her contemporaries proudly wear, she has made it her life's work to give back to her community through her service as a dedicated IRC field worker.
